Psalm 27: One Thing

Armies are camped against him and he says his heart will not fear. Then, in the middle, he narrows everything to one request: to dwell in the house of the Lord and to gaze on his beauty.

It is a strange ask in a siege. Not rescue, not victory — presence.

The psalm ends by telling itself to wait, twice, which suggests the writer needed convincing too.

Confidence here is not the absence of the siege. It is a decision about where to look while it lasts.
