Psalm 34: Near the Brokenhearted
Scripture
Psalm 34
Written, according to its heading, after David escaped by pretending to be insane in front of a foreign king. Not a dignified deliverance.
The line most people remember is that the Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.
Read it carefully. It does not say he is near to those who are coping. Nearness is promised at the point where a person has stopped being impressive.
If you are in that state today, you are not further away than usual. You are, by this verse, closer.
