Psalm 46: Be Still

Mountains fall into the sea, waters roar, nations rage. In the middle of that, a river makes a city glad, and then the instruction: be still, and know that I am God.

It is usually quoted as advice for a quiet morning. In context it is spoken over an earthquake and a war.

Stillness here is not calm circumstances. It is ceasing to strive because someone else is holding the situation. That is a harder instruction and a better one.
