1 John 5: That You May Know
Scripture
1 John 5
The letter states its purpose near the end: these things I write to you who believe, that you may know you have eternal life.
Not hope. Not feel. Know.
John has spent five chapters giving grounds for that knowing, and they are not feelings: do you believe who Jesus is, do you love other believers, do you keep his commands. Three tests, all of them checkable.
If assurance has been coming and going with your mood, this is the chapter that moves it onto firmer ground.
