An honest opening: in these lists, the overwhelming majority of items stop being contradictions once you read the surrounding context — but a small number are genuinely hard to reconcile, and serious scholars admit it. Sorting them into three groups helps. First, apparent contradictions that are differences of perspective. The four Gospels differ on details of the same event — who reached the tomb first, how many angels. That is what independent testimony looks like. Four identical statements would prove collusion, not truth. Second, apparent contradictions where the two writers are answering different questions. The famous pair is Paul saying a person is justified by faith apart from works and James saying faith without works is dead. In context it is clear: Paul is addressing people trying to earn standing by keeping the law; James is addressing people who claim faith and do nothing. Each would agree with the other sentence. Third, a genuinely difficult minority — numerical differences in the same battle, generations in genealogies, the order of some events. Scholars have offered explanations; some are persuasive, some strained. The honest position is that a small residue has no answer that satisfies everyone. What to do with a list, then. Ask first whether the context was read; most items dissolve at that step. Distinguish difficult from disproved: a number that does not match and the central claim of the book being false are entirely different things. And do not pretend the residue is not there. One more note: whoever handed you the list has usually not read those contexts either. A list is a rhetorical form, not a piece of research.
