Scripture is unusually direct here. Divination, consulting mediums, astrology and fortune telling are named and forbidden, not once but repeatedly, and in strong terms. This is not a disputed matter between faithful Christians in the way alcohol is. Why is it treated so seriously? The prohibition is not about superstition being silly. It is about where you go for guidance and security. Consulting the stars or a fortune teller is asking the future from a source other than God, and usually asking it in order to control an outcome. Scripture treats that as a rival trust rather than a harmless curiosity, which is why it sits alongside idolatry rather than alongside foolishness. But it is just for fun. Two honest observations. First, if it is genuinely meaningless to you, then nothing is lost by leaving it; the people who find this hardest are usually the ones for whom it is not purely a game. Second, watch what it does over time. Reading a daily horoscope for entertainment tends to become a small habit of checking before deciding, and that habit is exactly what the prohibition is about. The grandmother problem is the harder half, and refusing badly can damage a family relationship for years. Do not make it a confrontation about her beliefs. Say what you are doing rather than what she is doing wrong: that you have decided to bring these decisions to God in prayer, and that you would value her advice about the marriage itself, which she has far more of than any fortune teller. Give her a role instead of a refusal. Where you can, honour the surrounding customs that are cultural rather than religious.
