Psalm 121
One of the songs of ascent, sung on the road up to Jerusalem. The hills the writer lifts his eyes to were not scenery — they were where robbers waited.
The question is real: where does my help come from? The answer is not that the road is safe.
Six times in eight verses the psalm says keep. Your going out and your coming in, now and forever.
It is a song for people already on a road they cannot leave. Which is most of us, most weeks.
