God Remembers You — Isaiah 49:15-16

"Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you! See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands." (Isaiah 49:15-16) Israel was in exile, and their hearts carried a single bitter complaint: "The Lord has forsaken me, the Lord has forgotten me." That is the deepest fear of the suffering heart, the sense of being forgotten by God, as if we had slipped out of his sight. God answers with the tenderest picture in the world: how could a mother forget the infant nursing at her breast? Then God says something even more astonishing: "Though she may forget, I will not forget you." A mother's love is one of the strongest loves on earth, yet even human love can grow weak and can fail. But God's remembrance of you never wavers. He goes on: "I have engraved you on the palms of my hands." This is not ink on paper that fades, nor a note jotted down and set aside. It is a mark carved into his hands, always before his eyes. Many have seen in this image a foreshadowing of the hands that would be pierced for you and me, hands that still bear the nail marks. Perhaps you are in a season where you feel forgotten. Your prayers seem to sink like stones, your circumstances refuse to change, and you begin to wonder whether God is still watching over you. This passage speaks directly to you: you have never once left God's sight. Your name, your tears, your situation are all engraved on his hands. He does not remember you now and then; he remembers you constantly and tenderly. Feelings can lie to us, but God's word cannot. You may feel forgotten, yet God declares: I will never forget you. Today, let that truth win out over the doubts in your heart. The One who holds the universe has your name carved into his very hands. You are not a burden he set down, not a face he lost in the crowd. You are engraved, remembered, held. Lord, when I feel forgotten, remind me that I am engraved on the palms of your hands. Thank you that you never forget me. Amen. Today, read Isaiah 49 in the free BiblePro 主内圣经 app, and let God's promise comfort your heart.
