Cast All Your Cares on Him, for He Cares for You (1 Peter 5:7)

“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7). Peter wrote these words to believers who were facing persecution and displacement. He did not offer them a breezy “don't worry.” Instead he gave them something to do: cast your anxiety down. The word he uses pictures a heavy pack being lifted off a tired traveler's shoulders and thrown onto someone else. God is not asking you to pretend you are unworried; He is asking you to actually move the weight over to Him. Notice the word all. Not only the spiritual burdens, not only the large crises, but all of it — the bill you remember at two in the morning, the worry you carry for your children, the loneliness you cannot put into words, the fear about tomorrow. God does not sort your cares into ones that are worthy of His attention and ones too small to bother Him with. He says: cast them all on me. Why can we do this? Peter gives a tender reason: because he cares for you. This is not a distant, indifferent God who is only waiting for you to slip up. This is a Father who remembers your name, who numbers the hairs of your head, who knows what you need before you speak. When you cast your anxiety on Him, you are not hurling it into the void; you are handing it into hands that are both deeply loving and fully able. Today you might try something very simple. Take the heaviest thing on your heart, name it in a single sentence, and say to God, “This one — I give to You.” You may not immediately feel the problem solved; casting your cares is a motion you will need to repeat again and again. Each time the burden quietly climbs back onto your shoulders, cast it down once more. Faith is not letting go a single time; it is choosing, day after day, to believe: He cares for me. Father, I hand You the worry pressing on my heart right now — every piece of it, great and small. Thank You that You care for me even more than I care for myself. Let Your peace catch me. Amen.
