พระเยซูทรงถามคำถามเดียวกันสองครั้งในบทนี้ ครั้งแรกกับยากอบและยอห์นผู้อยากได้ที่นั่งดีที่สุด แล้วกับบารทิเมอัสคนตาบอดที่นั่งอยู่ริมทาง
ถ้อยคำเหมือนกัน คำตอบต่างกันมาก สาวกขอฐานะ ขอทานขอให้มองเห็น
ระหว่างสองคำขอนั้น พระเยซูตรัสว่าผู้ใดอยากเป็นใหญ่ต้องเป็นผู้รับใช้ คำถามนี้ควรนั่งใคร่ครวญวันนี้ เพราะมันเปิดอยู่จริง ๆ
